Second Semester

Time Machine

This is my time machine! This was the most fun and exciting projects this semester. From the start, I randomly wanted to use a pot. This led my brain to make a garden themed timed machine. I started with a shoe box, paper, and paint. I then became to used stones from my home garden as the way to take back time. I wrote on the stones and the idea was to step on the stones for the date, and to jump into the big pot of flowers. I also added rock ladybugs because I thought they looked cute. I made a sun from yarn. It was an attempt to make a yarn puff ball,. It didn't turn out exact, but I still enjoyed it. I added two pots with flowers on top, along with my little Mexican garden gnome. Lastly, I used clothespins to create a look of a picket fence. I really had a fun time creating this and coming up with new ideas!

Six Inch #2

This is another six inch vase. Like my chip n' dip, this six inch vase had many failed attempts. After breakage and running out of clay, I had an idea to mix Porcelain and Cassius. The swirl of the two clays is one of my favorite techniques because of the color and uniqueness. I think painted the inside of the vase a reddish brown so the outside is swirl and inside is a solid color. This is one of my friends favorite peice.

Hand Built Add On #2

This is a bowl thst I had made on the wheel. It is one of the best projects I had made on the wheel, but it unfortunately collided with another project in the kiln. Instead of fretting, I decided to continue my hand built beach themes and add sand over the place where it was broken. I noticed that it wasn't enough to just randomly cover a spot of the bowl, so I decided to go big or go home, and cover the entire bowl in Pacifica sand. I then added sea glass and a starfish to the bowl to have it be similar to my surfboard, in which they would both go together. I enjoy this piece because I made something out of what was a bad accident!

Hand Built Add On #1

For this semester, I knew I wanted to create a surfboard. I had seen ceramic surfboards before, and I thought it was very cool. Considering that I live by the beach, I thought this would be a perfect ceramic peice. I constructed the surfboard by rolling a slab for the body, and three small triangles, as support. As for coloring, I wanted the surfboard to look as if it was the sand and beach. I used to different element paints to complete this. I think it is safe to say thst some element paints are unpredictable when it comes to glazing, but the overall color scheme was shown. For both my add ons, I had a beach theme. I I cooperated starfish, seashells, sea glass, and even real sand from Pacifica. I think my surfboard belongs in the ocean! (:

Chip n' Dip

This is my chip n' dip inwhich I spent much time on. Since we have done a chip n' dip before, I wanted to make this semester's better than before. After numerous failed attempts, I finally had a completed chip n' dip. Although it does have its flaws, I'm very proud thst my chip n' dip survived. As for coloring, I used two different element paints. The chart of colors for the elements sometimes is deceiving but I like how my colors turned out. The outside 'chip' part is a red copper color and the element paint added a pretty sparkle. As for the inside 'dip' part, it is sort of a green color. I really enjoy how my chip n' dip turned out!

Cookie Jar

Yay for cookies! Many people in our class decided to make a cookie box, but to think outside the box, haha, I decided to make a cookie jar. I also decided to incorporate wire into the land to add an extra something to this piece. I am not sure why, but I really felt my cookie jar should have been blue. I contrasted this blue, with a sort of silver, and I really like how it turned out. I free handed the writing of COOKIES on the jar, and I am proud of how it turned out. I actually want to sue this for cookies! Yum!

Six Inch #1

This is my favorite piece this semester. I found inspiration on Pinterest to create a piece from cassius clay, and decried to try it out. After many failed attempts of painting this piece, I finally decided to go with a green theme. I think the brown and green kind of looks like a tree. Anyways, I painted the outside a solid green, while the inside looks like it explode with greens and yellows. The inside is semi transparent so the brown shows through which I think is a very cool design. Overall, I'm very proud of this piece!
